Origins
Croftstead was founded by Tim Ferris-Brown,
An agronomist and vineyard consultant with a background in winemaking and practical land management.
Shaped by his African upbringing, the business is guided by the principle “I am because we are”. From this perspective, land, people, and purpose are inseparable. Tim’s experience in finance, marketing, and global business as well as viticulture and oenology have steered a course resulting in a pragmatic and people-centred approach to helping others.
Philosophy
Farming should be useful, enjoyable, and grounded - always carried out in service of others. It is not an abstract idea, nor is it something to be glorified or taken for granted. Instead, it should be practical, meaningful, and adapted to specific context.
At Croftstead, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. We work with each client and landscape in a way that respects their needs and goals. Land, a finite resource, should be farmed in some cases and left alone in others. Some people are made to be farmers, others are not - but all require a purpose.
